Can you shortly describe your new record to our readers? What can they expect from Strychnine.213 (review of the record)? What are the differences from the other records?
Strychnine.213 is probably the most direct, compact and catchy record we have done to date. There are way more variations in tempos, dynamics, which accentuates pretty much every aspect of our music, be it the extreme brutal parts, the grooves or the melodies. The production is also much warmer and genuine, for lack of a better word here. Its an album where you hear a band playing music, unlike a lot of modern day productions where you hear programmed drums or beat detective shit, autotuned vocals and guitars, and
what not. It’s a genuine extreme metal record mixing modern elements to
brutality and catchiness.
What do you personally think of the new record? How are the reactions so far (those who are happy to have a promo cd)?
I think it’s the record next to goremageddon we are the most happy with, everything turned out the way we wanted, from production to songs to artwork to how the songs sound live. The reactions are mainly good, of course you got some people who know everything better than anyone on this internet cyberwaste but that’s the case with every record, you can’t please everyone and as said most people are liking it. When you keep on innovating yourself each record there are always going to be people who don’t like progress or evolution.
On „Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture“ you worked together with Jeff Walker (ex-Carcass) and Jacob (Hatesphere). Are there any guests on Strychnine.213, too?
There is only one, Mehdi from the Belgian band Dedicted, they are not big names (yet) but it’s a very good band and he is a very close friend of mine, we love his vocals and it sounded perfect with the parts he had to do, he had also been helping on a few lyrics on this record and slaughter.
How do you work together? How was the approach while Aborted were working on the new record?
We work together with a lot of love. Everyone being far from another, we pretty much first started recording demos on our home studios, the basic ideas coming from both guitarists. After that we would look ourselves up in the rehearsal room all together for a few weeks to finetune the songs, everyone would add his ideas and riffs and finish the songs as good as possible. This really turned out to be a group effort and a very good way to interact.
